SCORE!

As the local card show was wrapping up a couple of week ago, I noticed a card that I hadn’t all day.  Matt had a Herb Score rookie in his case and I wasn’t passing up a chance to pick up a second copy of this.  I’ve probably had the first copy for 15 years and haven’t had a desire to search for additional copies.  However, it was right there in front of me, so I knew that I had to pick it up.

If you don’t know who Herb Score was, please check out some of the links below.  I knew him as the radio color man for the Cleveland Indians, calling games alongside another voice of my teens, Tom Hamilton.  I grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia but had a stereo that could get WKNR out of Cleveland, the flagship station for Indians baseball.  While not much of a baseball fan anymore, I was a HUGE baseball fan when I was younger.  I didn’t grow up with cable so the Indians became my team in the early 1990s when I found WKNR on the dial.

Score was much more than an announcer though.  Before a freak incident he was considered one of the top pitchers in the game, and at a young age.

I have a few different Score cards.  Last time I looked through my PC boxes, I didn’t see the 2000 Fleer Greats of the Game autograph that I was pretty sure that I had.  I guess it’s now time to reacquire one of them.
