Another TTM Mailday: Hall of Fame Edition (Ryne Sandberg)

Yesterday I received an envelope from the Philadelphia Phillies.  As I looked at it I wondered what it could be, or more importantly, who it could be from.  I figured it had something to do with autograph requests I’d sent out in June but those normally don’t get returned in team stationery.  Those usually arrive in the envelopes with my address labels on them.  Needless to say, I was a little perplexed as to what was inside and I couldn’t even remember sending a request to anyone on the Phillies roster.  Upon opening the envelope I was pleasantly surprised and that’s putting it mildly!

There were four items inside that envelope and they were:

  1. the 2015 Topps Heritage Ryne Sandberg card I enclosed for Sandberg to sign (it wasn’t signed)
  2. a letter from the Sandberg and the Phillies organization thanking me for my support (see below)
  3. my return envelope with unused postage (great to use on another TTM request)
  4. a SIGNED 4×6 color postcard complete with career stats on the back

All in all, not too shabby for just over 50 cents.  Where else can you get ANY Hall of Fame autograph for that price?

**On a side note, Sandberg resigned from the Phillies on June 27 and this was postmarked on June 26.  Looks like I got very lucky this time.  Players getting traded, released, or even retiring usually means that your outstanding requests are gone forever.  Now might a good time to try to get his autograph from his home address.
