Recently, I discovered that former Mountaineer Larry Krutko has one football card, in the 1961 Kahn’s set. A couple of weeks ago, I asked Matt if he happened to have the card. He told me that the Kahn’s set was regional and that they are a little tougher to find. I didn’t know too much about them, but that explained why sellers are asking so much for his items on eBay.
The day after talking about these, I saw one of the cards listed in a cards group on Facebook. It wasn’t the Krutko, but I felt that it was just meant to be in my collection. A little quick researched confirmed for me that the asking price was more than fair, so I jumped on it.

I hadn’t done much research on the set, so I was surprised at the size of the card when it arrived. I’m not even sure what the best way is to ultimately store these. If you don’t know much about the set, I found this on Beckett.com “The 1960 Kahn’s football set of 38 cards features Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. The cards measure approximately 3 1/4″ by 3 15/16″. In addition to data similar to the backs of the 1959 Kahn’s cards, the backs of the 1960 Kahn’s cards contain an ad for a free professional album and instruction booklet, which could be obtained by sending two labels to Kahn’s. The cards are unnumbered and hence are listed below alphabetically for convenience. Willie Davis’ card predates his 1964 Philadelphia Rookie Card by four years.”
Despite the flaw on the back, I believe this will be one that I send in when I complete my first SGC submission. I can’t wait to pick up more of these cards. I should have bought one this weekend, but a shady COMC seller declined my offer and then raised the price. I will have more, though.
