This week I thought I would go back a few years for the Baseball Card of the Week and I picked the 1991 Upper Deck Michael Jordan #SP1 card. If you were a collector during the “junk wax era” this is definitely a card that you remember and probably even have a soft spot in your heart for it. Every time I see this card it immediately takes me back to when collecting was simpler and it wasn’t all about fancy autographs and memorabilia cards. That just makes me sound old though.
This card pictures Jordan taking batting practice prior to a Chicago White Sox game during the 1990 season and surprisingly this wouldn’t be MJ’s last baseball card but that’s another story for another day. It was inserted into 1991 Upper Deck Lo series baseball packs as a limited edition (or short printed) card and upon its release regularly sold for $20-25. Today, however, you can easily find the card for under $5.
I just sold a BGS 9 for a little over $5. Talk about disappointing.
