BOX BREAK: 2011-12 Pinnacle Hockey

I have a feeling that I am unique.  I have a small stash of unopened boxes and packs sitting around so that when the “mood strikes me” or I want to reward myself for something, I have some packs to open.

Watching the Playoffs with my girlfriend the other night, I just got into a mood, so I pulled this box out.  I picked it up awhile back because a) It was a really good price, and b) Andrew Shaw rookies. It was the only box (of this) that he had, or I might have snagged more.

I’m not going to give a play-by-play rundown on every card, but wanted to show this one first.  I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to open a pack.  She was indifferent, but I got her to open one.  There wasn’t much in her first pack, the best being a Sidney Crosby base.  “Ah well, I got her to open one,” I thought.  A minute or two later, I asked her if she wanted to do another.  She was pretty excited to answer “yes.”   In her second pack, she got her first hit:

Not a big hit, but she was pretty excited.  Her third and final pack didn’t yield much, but I have definitely gotten her interested.  It helps that she likes hockey.  We probably watched at least 50 Stars games this season and a good many Blackhawks ones as well.  As of this writing, she’s somewhere in the mid-900s range overall in the NHL Bracket Challenge.  Not bad for a contest that had about 800,000 entries.

Onto the break, not much to speak of, no major rookies…but when you get to the last one, I was excited for that hit.

Finally, the best hit of the box, and it’s not even really a hockey card:

2011-12 Pinnacle Fans of the Game Autographs #6 Jonathan Davis

I learned that this interesting autograph is from the lead singer of Korn.  I definitely like the concept of these non-athlete cards being mixed in, if there is a reason.  If you don’t want to keep them, at least there should be a secondary market of some sort for them.  There are thousands of certified autographs out there for many athletes.  I doubt there are as many for the lead singer of Korn or some of the other names (Alyssa Milano and Jamie Pressley are two others).  I’ll take my chances with a card like this over a fourth-liner on the Coyotes that already has 25 different certified autos.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed!  If you like what we’re doing, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter and also look through some other pieces on the site.  I’m always looking for more folks that would like to contribute, so let me know if you are!
