The easy player selection for today’s Hockey Card of the Day would be Jakob SIlfverberg, but we just showcased his performance in our Day 4 Card of the Day. Instead the honor goes to Minnesota goaltender Devan Dubnyk.
Dubnyk only made 17 saves last night, but posted the first shutout of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After joining the Wild in January, he posted a 27-9 record and 1.78 goals against average. He has spent the bulk of his career playing in Edmonton, and that is who he is with in today’s card of the day.

With Edmonton winning the draft lottery this weekend and getting the overall #1 pick in this year’s draft (and the fourth time in six years), it’s ironic that the talk in the hockey world is that Edmonton needs a goalie and defensemen. It’s amazing what a goalie can do when you put a good defensive team in front of him. Minnesota has just been plugging in goalies successfully for years now.
