Knute Rockne – Crossover Collectible?

As I’ve started collecting slightly out of the normal box of cards, I’ve picked up some things that I don’t know what I will actually do with.  This is an example of just that.

My grandmother was the stereotypical stay-at-home housewife.  She had some hobbies like quilting and stamp collecting.  She tried to get me interested in the stamp thing, knowing that I was into cards.  It never really caught on with me.  After she passed away, I was given her stamp album and entire collection.  It wasn’t anything I was into, but it was still something that had been hers.  I wish I still had it, but unfortunately it was one of many things that I lost in a house fire.

I think that was part of the appeal of this when I laid eyes on it.  It was just a pickup at a local post card show.  There was one seller that had a lot of sports related items and this was one that I picked up.  The football stamp from the post office and also the fact that it is postmarked Notre Dame, IN.

It likely has some crossover appeal to stamp collectors as well.  There’s a reason that the USPS would use the additional postmark stamps.  It’s certainly not just for fun.

I’m not sure how where where I will store this, but I will find a place.  As a big college football fan, it’s a cool oddball item and I’m happy to have it.
