Mailday – 1954 Bowman Ralph Starkey PSA 6

I’m thrilled to finally have this card.  There have been plenty for sale on feeBay, but I was willing to wait until I found one at a price that I was happy with.

Ralph Starkey played at West Virginia University from 1951 until 1953 and was co-captain of the 1953 Sugar Bowl Team.  He was the 89th overall pick in the 1954 draft.

I tried to find out more about Starkey, but there isn’t much I can find.  I don’t know how many years he played in the league.  Per his obituary, he was a U.S. Army veteran.  I’m not certain if that was before or after his career.  This card states that he was 23 during his first year in the league.  It is his only cardboard appearance.

You can’t tell from the scan, but I do have a gripe.  The seller used clear tape and stuck it to the case.  PEOPLE…USE PAINTER’S TAPE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!  It comes off cleanly and leaves no residue.
