Sometimes I don’t even know how I come across stuff. It’s like it just happens. I picked this small lot of cards up off feeBay for what I felt was a good price.
1948 Leaf #3A Bulldog Turner
This is one of two rookie cards of the College (1960) and Pro Football Halls of Fame. He is also in the 1948 Leaf set. His #66 is retired by the Chicago Bears. The card isn’t in great shape, but I’m quite happy at the price I got it for, considering it has a “book” value of $135.
1949 Leaf #17 Bob Mann
Mann isn’t a Pro Football Hall of Famer, but he was entered into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1988. He’s pictured with the Lions on this card and didn’t play for the Packers until 1950. When he joined the team, he became the first black man to play for the franchise. I don’t know enough to look at a card and estimate a grade, but this one looks to be in pretty good shape to me. It’s a $30 card and another one that I’m quite delighted to have.
1949 Leaf #38 Vince Banonois
Banonis is pictured as a member of the Chicago Cardinals, but might be better known from his college days. He played at Detroit Mercy and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986.
1949 Leaf #118 Fred Davis
Davis is the only player from the lot that wasn’t named to a college or pro hall of fame. He did play nine seasons in the NFL with the Redskins and Bears.
