“Other” Sports and Non-Sport Pickups

I was setting up at a card show this past Saturday, so I took Friday afternoon off from work to finish up on some things.  It had been a few months since I’d stopped at Anything Goes, a gift shop about a mile from where I live.  While it’s a privately owned gift shop, Doug has some cards and other items in there.

He was out of the shop at the time, but Mary let me search through some boxes that he had in his display cases.  I found some cards that intrigued me and were also at a small price.  I didn’t know anything about them other than they were old tobacco cards and likely from the late 1920s-mid 1930s.

Adding to the intrigue a small amount was the fact that Player’s has been involved in open wheel racing for years.  I’ve enjoyed racing since I was young and that put me over the top.  I was able to pick up all of the cards pictured for $16.  I didn’t know much about them and still don’t.  I’ve done a small amount of research already and haven’t found much, yet.  I took a look at COMC last night and saw some of these cards for sale at prices close to what I paid.

I’m going to do more research on these in the coming weeks.  If you’re interested, keep an eye out.  I’ll be posting more about them.  This is my own real-life episode of American Pickers, except I bought my items not knowing anything about the.
