Tony Gwynn would have been 55 today. My four Gwynn cards.

I just wanted to call attention to the fact that today would have been Mr. Padre’s 55th birthday, had the world not lost him last year.  I don’t collect many baseball cards and I watch less, but growing up, I was a huge baseball fan and card collector.  Being a portly little fella, I took a liking to both Gwynn and Kirby Puckett (who also was taken from us way too young).

There are only four Gwynn cards in my PC that I recall.

This is the only of his rookies that I have.  No idea when or where I got it, but I do think that it was in the last handful of years.  Now that I’ve gotten a little older and have a little bit more spending cash, I feel like I should go ahead and pick up his other rookies, for nostalgia sake.

These three were all picked up at a card show in Indianapolis about a year ago.  I remember I only picked them up because I got very good deals on them.  My favorite is the 1997 jersey card.  Now, you typically get at least at least two or three jersey cards a box.  In the early days, these were next to impossible to hit.  I know that I never hit one.

Unless I every just completely leave the hobby and get rid of everything, these will always be a part of my PC.  For me, collecting is about the fun and the memories, not the money.

Rest peacefully, big guy!
