With the rekindling of my love for vintage football cards, I’ve decided to start posting a vintage football card of the day. The card may not be worth a lot or it may be one of the most desirable cards among vintage collectors.
The inaugural card is the one that is #1 on my “want” list. Pete Zinaich was a captain on the football team at my alma mater, West Virginia University. This is the earliest card picturing someone who played football for the Mountaineers that I know of. If you know of earlier ones, please let me know!
Copies of this card are tough to come by. I can only find one currently online for sale. There is also a version with a brown back. If you collect vintage, you know that availability and condition on the first and last cards of sets can present a challenge. The Zinaich card is #100 in a 100 card set.
