Which Tobacco Card Sheets are Best?

One of, if not THE, most commonly referenced phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence is that “all men are created equal.”  While I believe this to be true, I don’t believe it when it comes to my hobby.

That was where and when I purchased my first two T206 cards.  They weren’t pretty, but they were $5 apiece and after almost 30 years in the hobby, I owned two cards from arguably the most popular sports trading card set ever. 

A little over a year later, I joined Bob Walk The Plank‘s Secret Santa and drew Matt of Bubba’s Bangin’ Batch of Baseball Bits.  I sent him Allen & Ginter minis that he needed for his sets.  I couldn’t figure out the best way to ship, then decided to pick up a few of the tobacco card pages to ship.  Since I had a few T206s, I decided to buy a few more pages for myself.  In time, I was able to fill a complete page.

I was happy and didn’t think too much of it until last week.  In a Facebook tobacco card group, someone posted a picture of some of his in sheets and it was different.  I really liked what I saw.  I asked him about them and once he replied I checked eBay and purchased some sheets.  After transferring my cards into the new sheets, I’m much happier with the visual appeal of my top page.

I’ve been an Ultra Pro guy since the early 1990s.  I haven’t bought a different brand of pages in more than 25 years, until now.  The four-row pages are BCW, and I like them much better.

I read a comment one day, I believe on Net54.  It was written that we won’t know what pages are better for our cards until many years down the road.  You can’t argue that.  Only time will tell what the chemicals in the plastic will do to our cardboard treasures.  Since we don’t, I’m just going to go with the one that I feel looks better.

I posted both pics on Twitter and asked followers which look they preferred.  It’s not a very scientific poll, but the replies were from card collectors so I feel there’s validity in the results.  I received 20 replies and 18 (90%) prefer the four-row sheets.  I’m not surprised.
